Patreon creators get paid by withdrawing their Patreon balance to a payout method: direct deposit through Stripe for US creators, a bank transfer processed by Payoneer for creators in eligible countries outside the US, PayPal, or a Payoneer Wallet. Member payments reach your balance with Patreon's fees already deducted, you withdraw once funds stop showing as pending or let an automatic payout run on the 5th of the month, and Patreon says a payout typically takes one to five days to arrive.
This guide follows the money from a member's payment to your bank account, using Patreon's help centre as it read on 1 October 2026. For the fees deducted before money reaches your balance, see our breakdown of Patreon fees for creators; this page covers what happens after.
From member payment to your bank
- A member's payment is processed, and the platform, processing and any conversion fees are taken out.
- Your share appears in your creator balance, first as pending and then as available to withdraw.
- Any hold on your account, such as the five-day lock after a payout method change, has to expire.
- You withdraw all or part of the available balance from the Payouts page, or an automatic payout sends the whole balance on the 5th.
- The payout fee for your method is deducted, and you see the net amount before you confirm.
- The money travels to your bank, PayPal or Payoneer account, and the Payouts dashboard shows its status.
Patreon's How payouts work article sets a limit that shapes your routine: you can start only one payout every 24 hours, and Patreon's automatic payouts article adds that an automatic payout counts as that day's payout. Leaving money in your balance is allowed, but a long period without logging in has consequences covered near the end of this guide.
Payout methods, fees and minimums
Which methods you see depends on your payout country and currency, and Patreon's guide to adding payout details says the country on your bank, PayPal or Payoneer account must match the details you give Patreon.
| Method | Who can use it | Fee and minimum | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct deposit (Stripe) | US creators; Patreon recommends a checking account, and US territories other than Puerto Rico are not supported | $0.25 per payout | Creator fees overview |
| Bank transfer (Payoneer), local currency | Creators outside the US in eligible countries; no Payoneer account needed | A flat fee of about $0.50 local equivalent, varying by currency; $10 or local equivalent minimum | Payouts guide outside the US |
| Bank transfer (Payoneer), USD to a local-currency account | Non-US creators whose payout currency is USD | 1.55% of the payout plus $0.25; $10 minimum | Payouts guide outside the US |
| Bank transfer (Payoneer), USD to a USD account | Non-US creators with a USD bank account | $0.50 per payout | Payouts guide outside the US |
| PayPal | Supported countries, sometimes processed through PayPal's Hyperwallet service | 1% of the amount, minimum $0.25, capped at $20; $10 minimum payout | Creator fees overview |
| Payoneer Wallet | Creators outside the US | $1.00 per payout in USD; $25 minimum | Payouts guide outside the US |
PayPal and Payoneer may charge again when you move money on to a bank. Payoneer does not support creators based in Russia, and from 1 September 2026 no longer supports creators based in Belarus, according to the payout details guide, which also says the PayPal option is not currently available to creators in Ukraine.
Local currency or USD: a quick decision
For creators outside the US, the payouts guide for creators outside the US frames the choice around where your members pay from. A local-currency transfer has the lowest payout fee, but members paying in any other currency trigger Patreon's 2.5% conversion fee on each payment. A USD transfer costs more per payout when it lands in a local-currency account, but members paying in USD avoid that conversion fee.
- Download the Member Transaction History CSV from Payouts, then Documents, and sort it by currency.
- If most members pay in your local currency, a local bank transfer is usually the cheaper route.
- If most pay in USD, compare the higher USD payout fee with the conversion fees you would otherwise pay on every member payment.
- If you hold a USD bank account, the USD-to-USD transfer avoids both the higher payout fee and conversion at payout.
- Read Patreon's article on setting your creator currency before switching, and note that the fees overview moves Founders-plan creators who change currency onto standard processing rates.
When money becomes available
Funds sit as pending until they are confirmed. The pending periods below come from How payouts work.
| Source of funds | Pending for | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Membership payments | Until the payment is successfully processed | Where is my Payout? |
| One-time purchases on web or Android | Up to 7 days | How payouts work |
| Purchases through Apple's in-app system | Up to 75 days, on Apple's timeline | How payouts work |
| Tickets for live events | Until 7 days after the event; for iOS tickets, the later of that or 75 days from purchase | How payouts work |
On subscription billing, members are charged on their own join dates, so your available balance grows through the month rather than in one lump. For members still billed on the 1st, Patreon's troubleshooting article suggests checking your available balance between the 1st and the 5th, when most of those payments have been processed. How subscription billing changes timing is covered in our subscription billing switch checklist.
Holds, tax forms and identity checks
Most delays on a first payout come from one of these, so clear them before you need the money.
- Five-day hold: placed when you add or edit a payout method, and for brand-new creators from the date of the first payout method or first payment. Patreon's payout details guide says changing citizenship or submitting a W-9 also triggers it, and an email gives the release time in Pacific Time.
- W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E: Patreon's W-8BEN article says creators who are not US citizens must submit one in order to pay out.
- W-9: the W-9 article ties the requirement to creators reaching $600 in earnings in a calendar year, with W-8 forms covering non-US persons, and How payouts work says payouts lock until a required W-9 is submitted.
- Account identity verification: separate from 18+ age verification. The Account Identity Verification FAQ says enrolment immediately locks payouts and gives you 60 days to finish before the account is suspended.
- Volume checks: How payouts work says a transfer may take up to 10 business days while Patreon runs checks on accounts processing high volume, with an email once funds are on the way.
The identity timeline is the one to diarise. According to the same FAQ, a suspended account cannot take new subscriptions or payouts but can still log in and verify; 30 days into suspension it is scheduled for deletion, reversible for 28 days, and if nothing changes the account is deleted and remaining eligible funds refunded. Patreon says most verifications process within minutes, after which you must request the payout yourself. If a suspension notice has already arrived, our guide to a Patreon page under review or suspended covers what to record and who to contact.
Automatic payouts on the 5th
Patreon's article on automatic payouts explains that once switched on from the Payouts page, a payout of your full available balance starts on the 5th of each month if the balance is positive. Switch it on after the 5th and the first automatic payout waits until the following month. A payout lock overlapping the 5th, for example from editing your payout method on the 1st, blocks that month's automatic payout, though you can withdraw manually once the lock lifts. Manual withdrawals remain available alongside it, and they are the only way to send part of your balance.
Why a payout is smaller, late or missing
Patreon's article on smaller-than-expected payouts and its missing payout troubleshooter between them list the usual causes. Work through them in this order:
- Fees: your balance is already net of platform, processing, App Store and conversion fees, and the payout fee comes off at withdrawal.
- Pending funds: recent one-time sales and in-app purchases may not be withdrawable yet.
- Declined member payments: you are not paid for members whose payments failed until those payments clear; Relationship Manager shows them.
- Merch costs: for Patreon merch fulfilment, item and shipping costs are usually deducted on the 4th, just before automatic payouts.
- Your own memberships: Patreon uses your balance to pay for memberships you hold with other creators.
- Payout status: Complete, Sent, Pending, Returned or Incomplete on the Payouts dashboard; returned payouts go back to your balance.
- Method problems: Stripe deposits can be delayed by weekends, holidays or wrong account details, PayPal payouts by a mistyped email, and Payoneer payouts by verification Payoneer itself requires.
Arrival times: Patreon's pages disagree
Patreon gives several different estimates for how long a payout takes once started. How payouts work says one to five days, the missing-payout troubleshooter says one to five business days, the automatic payouts article says three to five business days, and its Paying out your earnings article says deposits typically arrive within 10 days depending on method. If a bill depends on a payout, plan around the longest figure, not the shortest.
Smaller wording differences exist too: the W-8BEN article still refers to a Payouts and Taxes tab, while newer articles send you to Billing and payouts. Follow the current menus in your account.
Payout setup checklist
- Choose your payout currency with your members' pay-in currencies in mind.
- Add your payout method under Settings, Creator settings, Billing and payouts, at least a week before you expect to withdraw.
- Submit the W-8BEN, W-8BEN-E or W-9 that applies to you.
- Complete account identity verification immediately if Patreon emails you about it.
- Decide between automatic payouts on the 5th and manual withdrawals, and avoid editing payout details in the days before the 5th.
- Note your method's fee and minimum so a small balance does not sit unexpectedly.
- Each month, compare payouts against your earnings reports; our Patreon income worksheet includes a reconciliation routine.
Money left in an inactive account
Patreon's article on recovering unclaimed funds says balances in accounts with no login activity for an extended period are treated as unclaimed and sent to a US state's unclaimed property division after Patreon has emailed the creator. The dormancy period depends on your address on file; for creators outside the US it is 60 months, with funds going to Delaware. Logging in resets inactivity, so a dormant page with a balance only needs an occasional visit, or a final withdrawal.
Limits of this guide
Payout methods, fees and eligibility change by country and over time, and this page reflects Patreon's help centre on 1 October 2026, including the inconsistencies noted above. It does not cover charges from PayPal, Payoneer or your bank, or the income tax due on what you are paid. Patreon's tax forms establish your status for US reporting; they are not tax advice. For your own obligations, speak to a registered tax agent or accountant, and see our creator tax and deductions guide for the general questions to ask.
