To add a link in bio on TikTok, tap Profile, then Edit profile, then Add next to Links, and follow the prompts to enter your website. The Links option only appears for accounts with at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account, according to TikTok's help article on adding a website link to your profile.
Getting the link onto your profile is the quick part. What catches creators out is the field not appearing, taps that stall inside TikTok's in-app browser, and destinations that break TikTok's link rules. This guide covers who qualifies, how to add the link on each route, what happens when someone taps it, and a QA checklist to run before you depend on it for traffic.
Who gets the website field
TikTok gives two routes to a clickable profile link: reach at least 1,000 followers on a General (personal) account, or hold a Verified Business Account (TikTok help). The help centre's account types article repeats the same split. The table adds the edge cases from TikTok's business pages.
| Your situation | Website field? | What TikTok's pages say | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal account below the follower threshold | Not yet | The help article ties the website link to the follower count or to a Verified Business Account | Profile link article |
| Personal account with at least 1,000 followers | Yes | Add it from Edit profile, under Links | Profile link article |
| Personal account linked to TikTok for Business (Advanced Access) | Not from that link alone | An Advanced Access account can edit a bio-link in the Business Suite, but the entitlements table says it cannot display it on the profile | Entitlements |
| Verified Business Account | Yes | Named in the help article as a route to the link, with no follower count attached | Profile link article |
| Business account that was asked to verify and did not | Back to the personal rule | TikTok may convert an unverified business account into a General account and restrict business features | Account types |
| Adding a Lemon8 account | Where offered | The help article says you can add a Lemon8 account to your profile where available | Profile link article |
| A link that opens or logs people into another social app | No | TikTok no longer supports these, though you can still link to those platforms' websites | Profile link article |
On market rules, the help article states one rule and lists no country exceptions; the only item it marks as regional is the Lemon8 link. The business route does depend on location, because business verification is only offered in the markets on TikTok's business verification page, a list that includes Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. A Verified Business Account is also not the blue check; our guide to getting verified on TikTok explains the difference.
The pages above were read from Australia. TikTok can serve regional versions, and US accounts now operate under the US Terms of Service with TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, so treat your own Edit profile screen as the final check wherever you are.
Step by step: adding the link on each route
Personal account route
- Open the TikTok app and tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Find Links and tap Add beside it.
- Follow the prompts to enter your website, then save and return to your profile to see it.
If there is no Links section at all, the follower rule is the usual reason. Check your follower count and account type before reinstalling the app or contacting support, and remember that a business account converted back to a General account is judged on followers again.
Verified Business Account route
The help centre places the account switch under Settings and privacy, then Account, then Business verification (account types). The Creator Academy's Business vs. Personal guide still calls the menu item Switch to Business Account and says that once a business is registered it can show its category and unlock a link-in-bio and an app download link. Both pages describe the same destination with different labels.
Switching for a link has side effects: a Verified Business Account only gets Commercial Music Library sounds and cannot join the Creator Rewards Program. Read our comparison of TikTok creator and business accounts before you change account type just to get the website field sooner.
What happens when someone taps your link
A tap on a profile link opens the page in TikTok's in-app browser rather than the visitor's usual browser. The help article says TikTok applies safety measures to every account that limit how people can browse chains of external links inside that browser, so a visitor may be prompted to open the page in their device's browser instead. TikTok recommends that creators add direct links so people reach the intended site in just a few steps.
That matters for link-in-bio hub pages. A hub listing several destinations puts an extra stop between the tap and the page you want people on, and a visitor who taps onward from the hub is following the kind of chain TikTok describes. The article does not define how long a chain can be before the prompt appears, so the only dependable test is tapping through it yourself on a phone. Choosing a hub tool is outside this guide; our link-in-bio tools comparison covers that decision.
The same article tells visitors to check that a site is legitimate before entering personal details, and lets anyone report a suspicious profile link by tapping it, opening More options and choosing Report. A destination that demands a login or a payment the moment it loads looks like exactly what TikTok is warning people about, even when it is genuine, so make your page say who runs it before it asks for anything.
TikTok's link rules and what gets a link removed
Profile links fall under TikTok's Community Guidelines, and a link is judged by where it leads. The External Links rule in the Accounts and Features section says links that break the rules are removed, that TikTok may temporarily stop you from posting links, and that severe violations can lead to an account ban. The sections most likely to touch a creator's link are these:
- Destination content. The Sensitive and Mature Themes section does not allow facilitating access to sexual services, which it describes as offering or asking for sexual acts, sexual chats or imagery, or pornography.
- Regulated goods. The Regulated Goods, Services, and Commercial Activities section counts posting links and directing people off-platform as trade, and does not allow trading or marketing regulated, prohibited or high-risk goods and services.
- Spam and fake engagement. The Integrity and Authenticity section treats posting large amounts of irrelevant material as spam, and the comments rules in Accounts and Features sort random text, irrelevant promotions and links lower.
- Selling on LIVE. In markets where TikTok Shop is available, the Accounts and Features section says TikTok reduces the visibility of LIVE content that directs users to buy products off-platform.
- Workarounds. The integrity section says that if your account is restricted or banned, you may not create or use another account to get around it.
If your paid platform hosts adult content, read those sections before adding any link and check the whole path from your TikTok profile to the destination against them; our TikTok profile checklist for OnlyFans creators walks through that path. If a link is removed or link posting is paused, read the notice first, then review your account standing using our guide to TikTok account status and shadowbans before you change anything else.
Link QA checklist before and after you publish
Run this once when the link goes live and again whenever the destination, your hub tool or your account type changes. Keep the results in the same sheet you use for campaign links.
- Eligibility: confirm Links shows under Edit profile and note which route you qualify under, the follower count or a Verified Business Account.
- Direct destination: point the link at the page you want visitors to land on, not at a page whose only job is forwarding them somewhere else.
- In-app browser: from a second account, tap the link on an iPhone and an Android phone, and record whether the page loads inside TikTok or triggers the prompt to open it in the device browser.
- Onward taps: if you use a hub page, tap through to every destination on it and note any that only work after leaving the in-app browser.
- Phone layout: check the page fits a small screen, loads without a long blank wait, and shows its main action without scrolling hunts.
- Tracking: add utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign, the three parameters Google's campaign URL guide says to always use, and keep a single source value for TikTok across every link.
- Tagged-link test: tap the exact tagged URL from TikTok and confirm your analytics records the visit under the right source before you trust any numbers.
- Trust signals: the page loads over HTTPS, says who runs it, and does not ask for a password or payment before the visitor knows where they are.
- Policy fit: review the destination, and anything it links to, against the Community Guidelines sections above.
- Fallback: if the link is removed or link posting is paused, do not swap in a lookalike or shortened copy of the same destination; fix the cause, and use the appeal option in the notice if you believe TikTok got it wrong.
- Change log: record every link change with the date and the reason, so you can show what was live and when if you ever need to appeal.
Tracking clicks from your TikTok bio
UTM parameters are the simplest way to see TikTok profile traffic in your own analytics. Google's URL builder guide explains that the values are passed when someone clicks the tagged link and appear in the Traffic acquisition report, and it advises using only one utm_source value per platform so reports do not split. A tagged profile link looks like this:
https://example.com/?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=profile_link
Agree the naming before you build links and keep it in a shared sheet. Our UTM tracking setup includes a naming dictionary, and the TikTok traffic attribution guide shows how to reconcile profile visits, link clicks and conversions without crediting TikTok for sales it did not drive.
Expect TikTok's profile analytics and your site analytics to disagree, since they count different events. Every redirect you add for tracking is also another hop between the tap and the page, so test the final tagged link inside the TikTok app, not only on a laptop.
Limitations of this guide
This guide reflects TikTok's help centre, Business Help Centre and Community Guidelines as loaded on 1 October 2026; the guidelines version we cite was released on August 25, 2026 and took effect on September 24, 2026. TikTok changes link features and wording often. Its help article does not define a link chain or say when the open-in-browser prompt appears, and enforcement decisions rest with TikTok, so treat the checklist as a way to catch problems early rather than a promise that a link will stay up.
Region matters too: the pages were read from Australia, and US accounts operate under the joint venture's terms. If your link supports a business with advertising, consumer or privacy obligations, check them with a qualified professional in your market.
