To become a Twitch Affiliate, complete all four Path to Affiliate achievements inside the same 30-day window: reach 25 followers, stream for 4 hours, stream on 4 different days, and average at least 3 concurrent viewers on 4 of those stream days, as Twitch's Joining the Affiliate Program page sets out. Then turn on two-factor authentication, wait for the invite, which the Affiliate Program FAQ says should arrive within 24 to 48 hours of your final achievement, and finish onboarding: account details and the Monetized Streamer Agreement, tax interviews and a payout method.
The bar is lower than it used to be. Twitch's Monetization for All post lists the previous version as 8 hours, 7 streaming days, an average of 3 concurrent viewers and 50 followers. Many checklists online still quote those older numbers, so compare any plan you find against the current achievements before you build a month of streams around it.
The four achievements, counted the way Twitch counts them
Each achievement has a detail that trips people up. The table pairs Twitch's wording with the easiest way to misread each one.
| Achievement | How Twitch counts it | Where streamers slip | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reach 25 followers | Your follower total; progress is kept however long it takes | After 180 days with no new follower the tracker reads 0/25, which Twitch describes as an inactivity display rather than lost followers | Achievements page |
| Stream for 4 hours | Total broadcast time within the last 30 days | Reading the dashboard's all-time hours, which Twitch says will not match the 30-day achievement figure | Joining page |
| Stream on 4 different days | Calendar days in GMT, with no daylight-saving adjustment | A late stream can fall on a different GMT date from the one on your own clock | Achievements page |
| Average of 3 viewers on 4 days | At least 3 average concurrent viewers on any 4 stream days in the last 30 days | Counting total views instead of viewers watching at the same time; quieter days neither help nor hurt | Affiliate FAQ |
All four must land in one 30-day period, and the Achievements page gives the example of finishing the viewer goal on day 5 and the hours goal on day 35: that does not qualify, because the two never overlapped inside the same window. Progress can also lag, since the FAQ warns that achievement data can take 24 to 48 hours to sync with your dashboard.
Why the viewer goal now rewards fewer, stronger streams
The old rule averaged your concurrent viewers across the whole month, so every long, quiet stream dragged the number down. Twitch's rollout post says it changed this because an average requirement disadvantaged streamers who wanted to stream more, and because long regular sessions were hard for people working or studying full time. Under the current wording, quiet days simply do not count, which changes the planning logic.
In practice, a handful of streams at times your existing followers can attend now does more for the viewer achievement than a marathon schedule. The viewer achievement looks at your average on each stream day, so a shorter broadcast that holds its audience can count where a long one that thins out after the first hour would not. Tell your community in advance when you will be live, keep those sessions to a length you can fill, and treat any extra streams as practice rather than as a threat to your average.
A 30-day achievements tracker
The Achievements panel shows ticks, but it does not show which of your qualifying days is about to expire. Keep this log alongside it, one row per stream, using the Stream Summary for each broadcast and the panel's View 30-day stats button for the totals.
| Stream | Date (GMT) | Length | Average concurrent viewers | Meets the viewer goal? | Followers afterwards | Leaves the window on |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| First stream | ||||||
| Second stream | ||||||
| Third stream | ||||||
| Fourth stream | ||||||
| Fifth stream | ||||||
| Sixth stream | ||||||
| Window check | Today | Total hours | Qualifying days so far | Count of yes answers | Current total | Earliest expiry |
- Work out the expiry column by adding the window length to each stream's GMT date; if a qualifying day is close to expiring, schedule a stream before it goes.
- Record the GMT date, not your local one, so your log agrees with how Twitch splits days.
- Once the check row shows enough qualifying days, hours and followers, confirm the ticks on the Achievements page itself before expecting an invite.
- Skip anything that sells followers or viewers. The Monetized Streamer Agreement bars generating ad impressions by deceptive means, and inflated numbers become a problem at every later review.
What you can switch on before the invite
You no longer need Affiliate status to accept support. Under the global rollout described in Twitch's Monetization for All post, eligible streamers can onboard for subs, Bits, emotes, badges and Channel Points from the Creator Dashboard. What changes at Affiliate is withdrawal: until then, the agreement only lets you use the balance through Spendable Balance, which can buy gift subs and Bits.
Spendable Balance has its own conditions. Twitch's enrolment page requires a completed tax interview and warns that moving a payout balance into spendable earnings is a reportable tax event, so read that before you opt in. Two other steps are worth doing early. Turning on two-factor authentication now means one less task when the invite lands, and the monetisation FAQ recommends it for exactly that reason. And if you finish the basic setup first, the onboarding guide says the account step may already show as complete when you are invited, leaving two-factor authentication, the tax interviews and the payout method.
Onboarding checklist: from invite to monetised channel
Twitch's Affiliate Onboarding Guide says the whole process can take as little as 10 minutes, depending on verification checks. It rarely feels that quick if you start without your details ready, so work through this order.
- Gather your legal name exactly as it appears on tax documents, date of birth, country of residence, payout account details and any tax identification number before you open the invite.
- Step 1: enable two-factor authentication, which Twitch requires of every Affiliate and Partner.
- Step 2: fill in the account detail form, then actually read the Monetized Streamer Agreement before accepting it; for streamers aged 13 to 17, the joining page requires a parent or guardian's consent, and the guardian accepts the agreement on their behalf.
- Step 3, tax: complete every interview listed in Amazon Tax Central, usually a Royalty and a Service interview, plus DAC7 if you live in the EU or the Canada interview if you are Canadian.
- Allow time for validation: the onboarding guide says tax forms typically validate in 24 to 48 hours, sometimes up to 72, and that a form still processing after that can take 2 to 3 weeks.
- Step 3, payout: choose direct deposit, cheque, wire, PayPal or Hold Payouts, depending on your region; the processor charges a fee each time you are paid, so compare options in our guide to how Twitch payouts work.
- Have a government ID such as a passport to hand, because the payout section may ask you to upload a scan.
- Look for the “Welcome to the Affiliate fam!” confirmation, then set up your subscriber perks, emotes and ad schedule.
- Use identical name, address and country details in every step; the guide names mismatches between them as the most common cause of onboarding trouble.
Multiple channels, minors and other edge cases
- Account limit: the Affiliate FAQ allows Affiliate status on up to 5 accounts, each qualifying and onboarding separately; go over and Twitch removes monetisation from the least active, judged, according to the monetisation FAQ, by subscriptions, then followers, then the most recently created account.
- One status at a time: the same FAQ answers a flat no to holding Affiliate and Partner status together.
- Location: the program is open globally, so you can apply wherever you live, though tax interviews vary by country.
- Under-18 streamers: teenagers can join with a parent or guardian's consent, and the agreement adds that minors in Brazil need a judicial permit before producing monetised or sponsored content.
- Changing details later: restart onboarding from the payout onboarding dashboard early in the month; the Affiliate FAQ says changes after the 8th miss that month's payout.
- Leaving: offboarding goes through Twitch Support, current subscribers keep benefits until their paid term ends, and an unpaid balance above the threshold is still paid out on the normal schedule.
Met the requirements but no invite yet?
The joining page says invites typically take 24 to 48 hours and occasionally up to 72. Before contacting anyone, run through these checks in order.
- Search your email, including spam and junk folders, and your Twitch notifications for the invitation.
- Open the Achievements page and confirm every tick sits inside one 30-day window, not across two.
- Check that your email address is verified in account security settings.
- Go straight to Monetization and then Affiliate in the Creator Dashboard, because the email is only a notice and onboarding can start without it.
- If more than 72 hours have passed since your last achievement, which is the point the joining page gives for escalating, contact Twitch Support with your channel name.
Limitations of this guide
This checklist reflects the Twitch pages we read on 1 October 2026, and the requirements have already changed once in recent memory, so recheck the achievements panel before relying on any number here. We cannot see your dashboard, so we cannot explain why a specific account has not qualified. Tax interviews are the part where most streamers need outside help, and Twitch's own guide says its support team cannot give tax advice; if a question in the interview is unclear, ask a local tax professional rather than guessing.
After onboarding, two questions usually follow: what each income stream pays, covered in our guide to making money on Twitch, and whether the next step is worth chasing, which the Twitch Partner requirements page answers with a two-month tracker. If your subscriber base is growing, the Plus Program guide explains how Affiliates can earn a higher sub share without becoming Partners.
