To make money on Snapchat you need one of Snap's own programmes. The main one is the Monetization Program, which shares ad revenue from Public Stories and Spotlight with invited creators who, according to Snapchat Support, have at least 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time over the last 28 days and Snap Star verification. Around it sit invitation-only Creator Subscriptions, brand deals found through Brand Partnerships, and an Affiliate Program that pays for referring advertisers. Every route requires original, advertiser-friendly content.
This guide sticks to Snap's official programmes and keeps to content that suits a general audience. If you want followers before money, start with our guide on how to get more Snapchat followers; using Snapchat to promote a subscription page is covered in our Snapchat marketing guide for OnlyFans creators.
The Monetization Program: how invitations work
You cannot apply to the Monetization Program. Snap reviews creators and emails the address on the account if you are invited, so keep that address current. The programme page is blunt about scams: Snap charges no fee for an invitation, and anyone offering one in exchange for payment is not affiliated with Snap and does not control eligibility.
Revenue comes from ads that Snap places between Snaps in a Public Story or within Spotlight, and Snap says ads are served mainly according to how long people spend watching your Stories and Spotlights. That makes view time, not raw views, the number to watch. Since 7 May 2026, the same page says creators must keep at least 100 hours of Total Spotlight View Time over the last 28 days to qualify for maximum Creator Rewards, tracked in a Daily Rewards Eligibility section at the top of Insights.
Watch for one discrepancy. Older third-party guides quote a different minimum length for earning Spotlight videos, while Snap's current programme page says they must be at least 30 seconds long. Snap's own wording is the one to plan around, and it can change, so recheck it before you reshape your editing.
Monetization Program eligibility tracker
Copy this tracker into a spreadsheet and update the last column every week from your Insights. It turns Snap's criteria into numbers you can see moving.

Snapchat creator programmes compared
The Monetization Program is only one of several routes, and they have different gates. The Snapchat Creators monetisation page links them together; the table sets out how each one works.
| Programme | How you get in | How you earn | Payout route | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monetization Program | Invitation by email once Snap's criteria are met | A share of revenue from ads in your Public Stories and Spotlight | Creator Rewards Hub, cashed out through Hyperwallet | Programme page |
| Creator Subscriptions | Select creators only, invited by email while the feature rolls out | Monthly fees fans pay through their app store for direct Snaps, a subscriber-only Story, priority replies and badges | The same Creator Rewards Hub and Hyperwallet path, labelled Creator Subscriptions | Creator Subscriptions help |
| Brand Partnerships and Creator Ads | Switch on Brand Partnerships to appear in the Creator Marketplace; authenticity, engagement and content quality decide eligibility | Fees you agree directly with brands for sponsored Snaps, boosted posts or ad codes | Whatever you and the brand agree | Snapchat Creators |
| Snapchat Affiliate Program | Apply through PartnerStack; 18 or over, own a relevant platform, live in an eligible country | Commission when an advertiser you refer through a tracked link completes a qualified action | Monthly through PartnerStack by PayPal, Stripe or direct deposit | Affiliate Program help |
Two points are easy to misread. The Affiliate Program pays for sending advertisers to Snapchat's ad platform, not for selling products in your Snaps. And Creator Subscriptions began in alpha: Snap's February 2026 announcement said testing would start on 23 February with select US-based creators, then reach Snap Stars in Canada, the UK and France, with subscribers in supported markets signing up on iOS first. Asked about a waitlist, Snap's help page says only select creators can offer subscriptions for now and that more ways to join or apply may open over time.
For brand work, sponsored Snaps should carry the Paid Partnership label: the Community Guidelines prohibit undisclosed paid content, and the commercial content rules only let disclosed commercial posts be recommended. If you price deals yourself, our creator rates worksheet and media kit template help you set terms without guessing.
Snap Star verification
A Snap Star is a verified creator or public figure, shown with a star beside the name, and the Monetization Program lists it as a requirement. On the Snap Star page, Snap says it weighs a large and engaged audience, regular public Stories, authenticity, notability and content quality. General-interest accounts are not eligible, the account must represent a real person, and nobody is entitled to a star whatever their audience size.
You apply through a form linked from that page. Snap's overview of Snap Stars repeats the scam warning: Snap does not charge for verification, no one charges on its behalf, and no third party influences its decisions.
What content can and cannot be monetised
The Creator Monetization Policy rewards original work that shows clear creative effort. Reposting someone else's material only counts if you transform it, and reaction content has specific tests: your face visible throughout, you speaking rather than pointing or nodding, and the reaction clearly about the clip. Content made with editing or AI tools can be monetised if it is original and not misleading and the AI use is disclosed in the content or on your profile.
- Unaltered clips from TV, films or music videos, and re-uploads of other people's posts, are not monetisable.
- Template content, the same tile image used again and again, and old posts presented as new are treated as unoriginal.
- Tiles or openings that promise something the Story never delivers count as engagement bait.
- Media edited to mislead, such as an altered body or face implying a dramatic transformation, is excluded.
- Accounts that mostly post material that is not eligible for recommendation are, in Snap's words, most likely not good candidates for monetisation.
Snap's Community Guidelines sit underneath all of this. They prohibit undisclosed paid or sponsored content, pay-for-follower schemes and commercial activity related to pornography or sexual interactions, so creators who also run adult subscription pages need a Snapchat presence that stands on its own as general-audience content. Our Snapchat public profile guide includes a self-check against the recommendation rules.
Getting paid: Hyperwallet onboarding and cash-out
Snap's payout portal guide sets out the steps, and several of them cannot be undone, so read it before you start.
- Open My Creator Rewards from your profile and enter your contact information exactly as your legal name appears on your tax documents or government ID; Snap says you cannot edit it later.
- Wait for the activation email from Hyperwallet, which the guide warns can take several weeks, and check spam folders for it.
- Activate the portal with the access code shown in your Creator Rewards Hub, then complete your personal and business details and the taxpayer verification step.
- Make sure every detail matches what you entered in the app, because mismatches get the application rejected.
- Once rewards appear, expect each one to sit as pending before it becomes available to cash out.
- Cash out when your available balance reaches the minimum the guide sets, and keep records of each payment.
The same guide gives the timings: taxpayer verification can take up to 2 weeks, rewards move from pending to available after 14 days, and a cash-out needs enough available rewards for at least a $100 payment. It also says rewards stay subject to the Community Guidelines and Spotlight rules, and that non-compliance can invalidate pending or available rewards. Creators outside the US will usually meet the US Form W-8BEN during taxpayer verification; a registered tax agent can tell you how Snapchat income is treated where you live.
Limitations of this guide
The thresholds above are Snap's published invitation criteria as of 1 October 2026, and Snap describes them as criteria for possible invitation, not a promise of one. Snap evaluates accounts holistically with human and automated review, so two creators with similar numbers can get different answers. Creator Subscriptions are still rolling out and their set-up details reach invited creators by email, so public information is thin. Snap's February 2026 announcement also mentions a Snap Star Collab Studio without describing how it pays, so it is left out here.
Nothing here predicts what you will earn; Snap publishes no rate per view, and earnings depend on view time, ads and your audience. This is general information rather than tax or legal advice.
