To post on Fansly, open the post composer at the top of your home page on desktop, or tap the + icon at the bottom of the screen on mobile. Type at least a short caption, add media from your device, your vault or a copied offer, give each media bundle its preview and permissions, pick the walls and any extras such as scheduling or For You page promotion, then click Post.
Only approved creators can post, and every option sits in that one composer. This guide works through them in the order you meet them, then covers who will see the result and how to fix the errors creators run into most. Where a post lives on your profile is a separate decision, covered in Fansly walls explained; what to post and when is a planning job, and the content calendar planning guide covers that side. For the platform as a whole, see how Fansly works for creators.
Every composer option at a glance
Fansly's Posting article, updated in September 2026, lists the controls inside the composer. The table pairs each with the job it suits.
| Composer option | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Caption and Text Markdown | Text at the top of the post, with bold, italics, colours and hyperlinks; the eye icon previews it | Every post, since an empty caption triggers an error |
| Post to FYP | Offers the post to the For You page discovery feed | Posts built to reach people who do not follow you yet |
| Pin to Walls | Holds the post at the top of the walls you select | Introductions, events and tip menus |
| Post to Walls | Chooses which profile sections the post appears in | Keeping series and archives tidy |
| Lock Replies | Limits who can reply to the post | Announcements you want read rather than debated |
| Add Media | Attaches photos or videos as one or more bundles, each with its own rules | A free teaser and a paid set in the same post |
| Schedule Post | Publishes automatically at a date and time you choose | Keeping a steady rhythm when you are offline |
| Post Expiration | Removes the post automatically at a set time | Limited-time offers and event notices |
| Tip Goal | Adds a target fans can tip towards, alone or shared across posts | Funding a project fans can watch progress on |
| Poll | Asks fans a question inside the post | Choosing the next theme or release day |
| Lock Text | Puts written content behind permissions or a price | Stories, guides and longer notes |
| Record Audio | Attaches a voice clip with its own permissions | Updates that land better spoken than typed |
To change a caption after publishing, open the post's three-dot menu and choose Edit Post. Stories are a separate format: Fansly's Stories article says they stay live for 24 hours, are uploaded from the Story section of the home page and use the same media permissions as feed posts.
Adding media, previews and thumbnails
The Posting article breaks adding media into five steps: pick the source, select the media, set previews if needed, set media permissions and click Upload. You can repeat the sequence to put several bundles in one post. There are three sources: Upload New from your device, From Vault for files already in your library, and Copied Media, which appears once you have copied an existing offer.
Copied Media behaves differently from a fresh upload. Fansly's Copied Media Offers article says a copy is an exact replica of the original offer, purchase history included, so earlier buyers see it as already bought and are not charged twice, and a permission or price change on one copy applies everywhere it is used. The catch is deletion: removing a post deletes its media offer, which also removes it from every other post or message using that copy, and fans who liked or bookmarked it lose access unless they bought it.
Previews are optional unless you want locked media on the For You page. The Posting article says previews are required only for promoting locked content there, and that they are visible to everyone on Fansly. You can clone an image in the built-in editor, upload a new picture or pull one from the vault, and Fansly's free preview article mentions blur, censor and text tools in that editor. For video, the custom thumbnails article explains the gear icon on the media: Edit Cover appears when the main media is a video, Edit Preview Cover when the preview is.
Two more settings are worth checking once. The Creator Hub page on making your first post says your watermark is changed under Creator Dashboard and Uploads. And uploading large files to the vault before the day you post lets processing finish in advance, which the vault article recommends.
Scheduling, expiring and pinning posts
The composer shows two calendar icons, and they are easy to mix up. Fansly's Post Scheduling article says the one with a clock schedules a post: choose the date and time, click Confirm Date, then build the post as usual. Queued posts live in the Scheduled Post Queue, reached from your profile picture, where you can edit details, move the time or delete with the trash icon. The calendar with a trash can sets an expiry instead; the expiring posts article says the post then disappears at the time you set without any further action.
Pinning works from the composer toggle or, on a live post, from the three-dot menu and Pin Post. The Posting article caps pins at 25 and says the oldest pins are unpinned automatically if you go over, and the walls article notes that pins are set per wall.
For timing, Fansly's Statistics article describes a When your audience watches heat map on the Content tab, by weekday and hour in your time zone, and suggests using it to plan when to post or schedule. That gives you your own audience's pattern rather than a generic best time.
Text, audio and locked text
Text-only posts still need text: Fansly's article on the “You cannot send an empty post” error says every post needs at least an emoji, a word or a sentence, even with media attached. Paid writing uses the Locked Text icon; the monetising text posts article says you type the text in the pop-up, then choose who can unlock it and, optionally, a price.
Audio uses the microphone icon in a post or a DM. Fansly's audio post article says your browser may ask for microphone access, that you can stop and re-record, and that the clip then gets previews and permissions like any other media. Replies and polls carry their own rules too: the permissions guide lets locked replies require following, a subscription, a tip, a minimum spend on your media or being someone you follow, and lets you limit poll replies to followers or subscribers.
Who will see the post
Three layers decide visibility. Media permissions decide who can open each bundle, and the tiers explainer maps them by audience. Timeline Permissions, under Settings and Privacy & Safety, decide who can view your timeline at all. Walls decide where on your profile the post sits.
Discovery is opt-in per post. The For You Page article says a post appears there only if you tick Post to FYP, locked media needs a free preview to qualify, and a pop-up tells you which requirement is missing. If your timeline is restricted, the Internal discovery when the timeline is hidden toggle keeps opted-in posts eligible.
Hashtag guidance differs slightly between Fansly's own pages. The Making Your First Post page suggests 5 to 10 accurate hashtags, while the Creator Hub's For You page guide says to keep them relevant and under 10. Both stress accuracy, so the overlap is the safe zone: a handful of specific, honest tags.
Fixing common post problems
- “You cannot send an empty post” with text already typed: Fansly suggests disabling browser extensions, trying another browser, switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, and updating and reloading the site.
- A subscriber says the post is locked or missing: the subscriber troubleshooting article points to timeline permissions, especially a Following requirement left on after the follow button was switched off, and to making sure their tier is included in the media permissions.
- A fan can see a reply count but cannot open the replies: Fansly's replies article names blocking and geoblocking as the likely causes.
- The post never reaches the FYP: check that Post to FYP was ticked, that locked media has a free preview and, if your timeline is hidden, that internal discovery is switched on.
- Audio will not record: allow Fansly to use your microphone in the browser's site settings, as the audio article suggests.
- No cover option in the gear menu: the thumbnails article says the cover options only appear when the main media or the preview is a video.
Post QA checklist before you click Post
- The caption says what the post is and, for paid media, what the fan gets.
- Each bundle has the permissions you intended, loaded from a preset where possible.
- Tier-limited media names every tier that should open it.
- Locked media headed for the FYP has a free preview you are happy for anyone to see.
- Video covers are set, for the main media and the preview.
- The walls are right, and the post is pinned only if it earns a top spot.
- The clock calendar holds the publish time; the trash-can calendar holds any expiry.
- Replies are locked or open on purpose, and any poll has the reply rule you want.
- Reused media is a copied offer, so past buyers are not charged twice.
- You have not reused a copied offer you plan to delete somewhere else later.
- After publishing, View Media As confirms what a follower and a subscriber see.
Once posts are going out reliably, the next question is which of them earn money and how; how to make money on Fansly maps the paid options a post can carry.
Limitations of this guide
This walkthrough follows Fansly's help centre and Creator Hub as they read on 1 October 2026. The composer changes over time, some help articles still link to pages that no longer load, and desktop and mobile layouts differ, so an icon may sit somewhere slightly different on your screen. The help centre does not say which time zone a scheduled post uses, so check the first scheduled post you queue.
The guide covers mechanics, not results. Nothing here predicts how a post will perform, and Fansly's FYP article says its Support team cannot give individual advice on boosting engagement. Content must also meet Fansly's Terms of Service, which this page does not summarise.
