Fansly is run by an identifiable company: its Terms of Service name Select Media LLC, a Maryland limited liability company, as owner and operator, and it offers standard creator protections such as authenticator two-factor authentication, Management Sessions and geoblocking. What decides whether it suits you are clauses that reviews rarely mention: powers to deduct or forfeit earnings, a monthly charge on inactive balances, biometric data collection from verification documents and individual arbitration under New York law.
“Is it legit?” and “is it safe?” split into three practical questions: which company you are signing with, what its documents allow it to do with your money and data, and where you turn when something breaks. Each section below names the Fansly page that answers the question and the position it took on 1 October 2026, so you can recheck it later. New to the platform? Read how Fansly works for creators first; a comparable review of a rival service is our Fanvue due-diligence checklist.
Who you would be contracting with
The Terms, last updated and effective on 21 July 2026, open by naming Select Media LLC as the company that owns and operates fansly.com. A section for California residents gives a postal address at 145 West Ostend St, Suite 600, Baltimore, MD 21230, and the Getting Started guide notes that payouts usually appear on bank statements as SELECT MEDIA LLC, with some variation by region and method. The name on your bank statement matching the name in the contract is a small but useful consistency check.
You can look the company up on Maryland's Business Express entity search. When checked for this guide, the search sat behind an automated human-verification step, so the record itself was not reviewed here. Search the exact name yourself and confirm the entity shows as active, with an address consistent with the Terms.
The dispute terms deserve a careful read. Disputes go first through a written Notice of Dispute, then to individual arbitration with National Arbitration and Mediation, with small claims court as an alternative and a waiver of class actions. Where a court does hear a dispute, New York law and New York courts apply. You can opt out of arbitration by emailing support@fansly.com within 30 days of the earliest of first paying, first using Fansly or first providing information after the current terms were posted, with the details the arbitration section lists. The liability clauses also cap what Fansly owes you at the greater of 100 US dollars or what you paid for the purchase in question, and exclude liability for lost revenue and profits.
Fansly trust checklist with evidence links
Run through these rows before your first upload, ideally with the Terms open in another tab. The right-hand column is a snapshot from 1 October 2026, not a permanent answer.

Money clauses to read before you earn
The headline share is contractual: the Selling Content clause of the Terms gives creators 80% of what subscriptions, sales and tips bring in, payable once a valid payout method is added. The same clause lets Fansly claw back earnings from sales later reversed by a chargeback, and from content that breaches the Terms. A separate clause on prohibited uses goes further, reserving the right to forfeit revenue earned by users who violate the Terms and to refund some or all of it to affected users.
Two quieter clauses affect anyone who lets money sit. The Inactive Status clause treats an account as inactive after a year without logging in and then takes a monthly fee from the balance until nothing is left; logging in stops the deductions but does not refund them. And the Terms say Fansly can change payment or payout processors. Withdrawing on a steady schedule limits how much is exposed to any of these at once. Timing and statuses are explained in our Fansly payout timing guide, and refund rules in our Fansly refunds and chargebacks FAQ.
Help-centre promises versus the binding text
Fansly's article Is My Account Information Secure? says personal data is encrypted, stored securely and never shared, and that Ondato, its age-verification provider, keeps neither your selfie nor your ID, passing Fansly only a confirmation that you are verified. Read the binding documents and the picture is different. Registering as a creator, according to the Terms, gives Fansly and its contractors permission to gather and hold biometric information, for example face-geometry scans, taken from your content and verification documents. The Privacy Policy, last updated on 26 February 2022, lists identity document numbers and biometric information among the data it may collect, keeps data for as long as necessary for its stated uses, and allows disclosure to contractors, service providers, a buyer of the business and law enforcement.
The most likely reading is that the Ondato line describes the age check, while the creator application, which asks for ID photos and a video sent to Fansly itself, falls under the broader terms; our walkthrough of Fansly's creator verification separates the two checks. Plan on the binding wording: assume your documents are kept, and email privacy@fansly.com, the address the Privacy Policy gives, to ask what is retained and for how long.
Chargebacks show a softer version of the same gap. The Creator Security FAQ says creators are shielded in most cases, while the Terms let Fansly deduct any revenue tied to a chargeback. Budget for deductions rather than relying on the help article.
Security features worth switching on
The protections are real and worth using. Authenticator-based 2FA guards logins and sensitive actions, Management Sessions let a helper work without your password while payouts and account closure stay locked, geoblocking hides your profile from chosen countries, states or cities, and View Media As shows you what a free visitor sees. Fansly also says it does not store payment card details. Set them up with our Fansly account security checklist and the Fansly privacy and geoblocking guide, and compare platforms feature by feature in our OnlyFans, Fansly and JustForFans security comparison.
Lookalike sites and impersonators: a warning list
Scammers borrow the Fansly name because creators already trust it. The signs below come from Fansly's stolen identity article and its security pages:
- Fansly's own wording is that it runs only on https://fansly.com and that other domains copying it are fraudulent; bookmark the real address and use the bookmark instead of links sent to you.
- Fake creator pages are often built on website builders and link-in-bio services; Fansly lists report routes for hosts including Wix, GoDaddy, Beacons, TeleportHQ and Buffer's Start Page.
- A request for your password, a one-time 2FA code or a session link marks the sender as an impostor, because Fansly says its support never asks for them.
- Keep the setup QR code private: Fansly's 2FA article warns that the code belongs to your account alone and could let someone else in.
- Fansly's documents give contact addresses at fansly.com for support, notices, compliance and privacy, with one exception: copyright notices go to its outside agent at DMCAnotice.com. Treat any other sender domain claiming to be Fansly with suspicion.
- An offer to take payment off the platform for content or services that break the Terms should be refused, as the Creator Security FAQ makes clear.
Typed your details into a copycat page? The identity article's steps are a new password, 2FA switched on, a call to your bank to flag possible fraud and a heads-up to your fans. Australia's Scamwatch explains common phishing tactics if you want a second opinion on a suspicious message.
Complaints, takedowns and outside help
Inside Fansly you can use the Report button, email support, file the complaints form, send a notice about intimate images shared without consent, or appeal an abuse takedown. Our guide to contacting Fansly support matches each of those routes to the right address and message. Fansly's identity article also offers a free DMCA takedown service for impersonation, using links sent to support.
Some problems need help from outside the platform. In Australia, the eSafety Commissioner handles image-based abuse reports, including intimate images shared without consent, and the police are the right contact for threats or extortion wherever you live.
Limits of this Fansly trust check
This check was done from the documents alone, as published on 1 October 2026: no account was opened, no payout was requested and no support response times were measured. The Maryland record stayed out of reach behind the state site's human check, and even a clean state record proves only that an entity is registered; it says nothing about cash reserves or how disputes with individual creators have gone.
Third-party review sites blend real accounts with affiliate marketing, so they played no part here. Clauses are paraphrased, and the law where you live may override some of them. Before you rely on Fansly for a large share of your income, or decide whether to send an arbitration opt-out, have a lawyer read the live Terms; an accountant can tell you how the earnings are taxed in your country.
