On OnlyFans, a release form is the record proving that another person in your explicit content is an adult, has verified their identity and consents to appearing. If they are a verified OnlyFans creator, tag them with their @username. If they aren't on OnlyFans and don't want a creator account, OnlyFans' help article on featuring someone else says to send them a verification invitation with the Create new invitation link option on your Release forms page. Until the tag is confirmed or their verification is approved, the post stays hidden.
This guide covers the platform side of posting with another person. Contracts, licences and contractor paperwork belong in our content rights release checklist, and choosing partners or planning joint content is covered in the OnlyFans creator partnership guide.
When OnlyFans asks for a tag or release form
The trigger is explicit content. The help article says that if you post explicit content containing someone other than you, you must show OnlyFans that they are an adult, have consented to you sharing it and have agreed to its Terms of Service. The Creator Center says the same for content with nudity or sexual activity, and adds that a pop-up asks you to take action when you post it. The Acceptable Use Policy bans explicit content featuring any adult who hasn't completed creator onboarding or provided a properly completed release form.
The paperwork duty reaches further than the pop-up. Under the co-authored content section of the Terms of Use, every person in content you upload must be a creator you tagged, or an adult whose proof of identity and written, informed consent you have obtained. You and each co-author must supply documents if OnlyFans asks, and if anyone fails to, OnlyFans may restrict or delete the content or your account and withhold earnings. So even for non-explicit content with other people in it, keep consent records.
Collaborator scenario table
| Scenario | What you do | What they do | When it shows | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| They are a verified OnlyFans creator | Tag their @username, or paste their full profile URL to add a card linking to them | Keep their creator account active | Once OnlyFans confirms the tagged creator is the person in the media | Featuring someone else |
| They aren't on OnlyFans and don't want a creator account | Create an invitation link from your Release forms page, or use the verification link in the pop-up when you post, and send it to them | Verify their ID and agree to the Terms of Service through the link | Only after the verification is complete and checked by OnlyFans | Featuring someone else and the Creator Center |
| A partner you film with regularly | Suggest they verify as an OnlyFans creator once | Open a creator account and set the profile to private if they don't want a public page | Each later post clears with a simple tag | Creator Center |
| You already hold a signed release form | Upload the existing form when the post prompts you | Sign the form and provide a copy of their photo ID | After the documents are reviewed and approved | Interface text |
| The creator you tagged is no longer active | Repost with a correct tag, or queue the content and complete their details through the link provided | Complete verification if they no longer have a creator account | After the replacement tag or verification clears | Interface text |
| A collaborator withdraws consent | Stop reposting the content and don't upload it again without an updated release form | Write to support@onlyfans.com to withdraw consent | OnlyFans takes the content down | Consent page |
| Your account features many other people | Keep most of the account's content featuring you, and ask support before uploading more | Each still needs a tag or release form | Uploads may be restricted | Featuring someone else |
The interface text quoted in the table also says that uploaded release documents must be a high-quality photo or scanned copy, signed by the additional participant, and come with a copy of their photo ID.
What OnlyFans' sample release form contains
OnlyFans publishes a sample release form (PDF), which shows what a participant is agreeing to. In it, the person confirms that:
- they appear in sexually explicit or non-explicit media intended for OnlyFans, and were an adult when all of it was created;
- OnlyFans may let the named creator upload, use, re-use, display, publish and distribute that content on OnlyFans, including for commercial reasons;
- they are not entitled to payment from OnlyFans, which pays any earnings to the creator, and OnlyFans is not a party to any deal between them and the creator;
- they can withdraw consent at any time by contacting support@onlyfans.com in writing.
The participant then records their ID type, full legal name as shown on the ID, date of birth, ID number and where it was issued, and signs and dates the form. Because OnlyFans pays earnings only to the creator who posts, any revenue share with a collaborator is a private agreement between the two of you. Put it in writing using the decision record in the content rights release checklist.
Release form statuses and what each one asks of you
The notifications in OnlyFans' interface text describe each stage a release form can reach:
- Undergoing verification: the form is with OnlyFans. Leave the post alone rather than re-uploading it.
- Approved and added to your profile: the content can go live. Save the notification with your shoot records.
- Declined with a reason: fix exactly what the reason names, then submit again.
- Link needs to be re-submitted: the notice includes a reason, so pass it to the participant along with a fresh link.
- Link has expired: create a new invitation link and resend it.
- Signing attempts limit reached, or form expired: the interface tells you to contact support.
Pre-shoot checklist
- Confirm every participant is an adult with valid government photo ID, and agree which route each will use: tag, invitation link or uploaded form.
- Collect the @username of anyone who is already a creator and check that their account is active.
- Tell non-creators they will verify their own identity through OnlyFans' link and agree to its Terms. Creating the invitation from your Release forms page ahead of time lets them finish before posting day.
- Agree in writing what will be posted, where and at what price, how money is shared, and how either of you can ask for content to come down.
- Suggest that anyone you film with regularly becomes a verified creator with a private profile.
- Make sure everyone knows they can withdraw consent by writing to support@onlyfans.com.
- For a co-stream instead of a shoot, OnlyFans' co-streaming article says the other creator subscribes to your account, joins your live stream as a viewer and requests to co-stream, and you approve the request.
Pre-post checklist
- Tag each verified creator who appears, using their @username or full profile URL.
- Answer the pop-up asking who is in the media instead of closing it.
- Check that every release form shows as approved before you set a fixed release time. Our guide to scheduling posts on OnlyFans explains why a scheduled time doesn't override verification.
- Apply the same rules to paid messages. The Creator Center suggests sending a collaboration as a pay-per-view message, and the interface text has a separate notice for messages that feature another person.
- Keep the majority of your account's content featuring you, as the help article requires.
- File the approval notification, the tag and the date with your shoot records.
Worked example: one shoot, two kinds of collaborator
Picture a hypothetical creator planning a studio shoot with two people: a partner who already runs a verified creator account, and a friend who has no interest in joining OnlyFans.
- The week before: the creator makes an invitation link on the Release forms page and sends it to the friend, who verifies their ID and accepts the Terms. The creator waits for the approval notification before booking a posting date.
- Shoot day: the creator checks the partner's @username still leads to an active creator account, and all three sign a short written agreement covering where the content goes and how earnings are shared.
- Posting: the creator tags the partner, answers the collaborator pop-up and confirms the friend's form shows as approved. Only then does the post go into the queue.
- Months later: the friend asks for the content to come down and writes to support@onlyfans.com. The creator takes the set out of any bundle, notes the date and doesn't upload that media again.
Why an untagged post stays hidden
The Creator Center is blunt: if you don't tell OnlyFans who you are collaborating with, your content will not be posted. Media that slips through without a tag can be removed later, and the notice will say it was taken down for failing to provide a user tag or release form for additional participants. The fix is the missing tag or form, not a reworded caption. For removals that have nothing to do with collaborators, see why OnlyFans posts get rejected or removed.
If a collaborator leaves or deletes their account
Shared content doesn't vanish when one person leaves. The Terms of Use say deleting an OnlyFans account won't automatically delete co-authored content posted by another creator. They also say anyone who appears in co-authored content may withdraw consent at any time, and that the content may then be deleted. OnlyFans' consent page confirms that it takes content down when a featured person says they no longer consent. Plan for joint content to be removable, and don't build a paid bundle that depends on it staying up.
Limitations
This explains OnlyFans' own process as published on 1 October 2026, and it has clear limits. Labels such as Release forms or Tags and release forms can differ between the app and the browser, the sample form may be revised, and OnlyFans decides whether documents are accepted. Meeting OnlyFans' requirements also doesn't settle every legal question about filming, consent or record keeping where you live; for that, speak to a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
