YouTubers in the Partner Program are paid through AdSense for YouTube, the Google payments account linked to their channel. Each month's finalized earnings land in that account between the 7th and 12th of the following month, and if your balance has reached the payment threshold for your currency by the 20th and nothing is on hold, Google issues the payment between the 21st and 26th, according to YouTube's payment process page.
Reaching a first payment takes more than joining the program. You link one account, verify your identity and address, submit tax information and choose how to be paid, and each step is triggered by a different balance. This guide gives you the setup checklist in order and a monthly timeline you can copy into a calendar. How US withholding applies to creators outside the US is a tax topic in its own right and is only summarized here.
One AdSense for YouTube account, created inside Studio
Create the account from the Earn tab in YouTube Studio, not on the AdSense website. YouTube's AdSense set-up page warns that an account opened on adsense.com for this purpose will be disapproved and monetization disabled for your channel. The same page allows one AdSense or AdSense for YouTube account per payee name; duplicates are not approved, and monetization is turned off for the channel linked to one.
A few rules follow. You can monetize several channels through one AdSense for YouTube account, and you can change which account a channel uses, but only once every 32 days, per the set-up page, which also says approval of a new account can take up to several days. If your channel works with a multi-channel network, you must link your own account, because using someone else's breaks the terms even with their permission. And account ownership cannot be transferred later, so open it in the name of whoever should receive the money.
The checks before your first payment
YouTube's how to get paid page lists four steps: confirm your personal information, share your tax information, select a form of payment and meet the payment threshold. Each check is tied to a balance in your reporting currency, and the values differ by currency, as the revenue thresholds table shows. Six common currencies are below; check the full table for yours.
| Currency | Verification threshold | Payment method selection threshold | Payment threshold | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US dollar | $10 | $10 | $100 | Revenue thresholds for payment |
| Australian dollar | $10 equivalent | A$15 | A$100 | Revenue thresholds for payment |
| British pound | $10 equivalent | £10 | £60 | Revenue thresholds for payment |
| Euro | $10 equivalent | €10 | €70 | Revenue thresholds for payment |
| Canadian dollar | $10 equivalent | C$10 | C$100 | Revenue thresholds for payment |
| New Zealand dollar | $10 equivalent | $15 | $130 | Revenue thresholds for payment |
At the verification threshold, Google asks you to verify your identity and then mails a PIN to your payment address. The two help pages describe the wait differently: the payment steps page says the PIN travels by standard post and may take 3 to 4 weeks, while the set-up page says a new account's PIN card is mailed once the balance reaches $10, and that for accounts that already existed you may wait at least 3 weeks before requesting a replacement. Either way, the set-up page says that if you do not verify your address within 4 months, monetization is paused, including features such as channel memberships and Super Chat, until you do.
Payment setup checklist
- Turn on 2-Step Verification for your Google Account, which the Partner Program overview lists as a requirement to join.
- Decide whose name the account belongs in before you start. Ownership cannot be transferred, and only one account is allowed per payee name.
- Create or link the account from YouTube Studio, Earn, and confirm the email shown at the top of the AdSense for YouTube page is the one you meant to use.
- Enter your payee name and address exactly as you want them verified, and match the address to the format your local post office recognizes so the PIN can be delivered, as the set-up page advises.
- Submit your tax information as soon as the account exists, a tip from YouTube's payment holds page, and review it once a year.
- Have identity documents ready for when the verification threshold arrives.
- Watch your mail for the PIN and enter it as soon as it lands.
- Choose a form of payment once your balance passes the selection threshold; the options available depend on your payment address.
- If you also earn from AdSense on a website, remember that your YouTube payments account is separate and must reach its own threshold, according to YouTube's AdSense for YouTube overview.
- Make any change to payment details, and clear any hold, by the 20th of the month, the cut-off on the payment process page.
- Treat payment emails with suspicion. YouTube's holds page says genuine requests come from an official Google email alias and that Google will never ask for your bank account details, so ignore messages that do.
Monthly payment timeline
Once setup is complete, payments follow the same cycle every month. The Source column shows which help page each date comes from.
| When | What happens | What you do | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| During the month | Earnings accrue; estimates appear in Analytics after 2 days | Nothing yet; the estimates will move | Check your YouTube revenue |
| About 1 week after earning | First adjustment to estimated revenue | Note any large swing | Check your YouTube revenue |
| 7th to 12th of the next month | Last month's earnings are finalized and posted to AdSense for YouTube, with any deductions shown | Check the Payments page | Payment process |
| By the 20th | The balance must reach the payment threshold; changes to payment info, including removing holds, must be complete | Fix holds and details before this date | Payment process |
| 21st to 26th | Payment issued and a Payment pending line appears; it may move to the next business day if the 21st is a weekend or holiday | Look for the line item | Payment process |
| After the payment is issued | Electronic funds transfer up to 7 business days; Hyperwallet 1 to 2 days; wire transfer up to 15 business days; check 2 to 4 weeks | Follow up with your bank if a transfer is late | Payment process |
| Threshold not reached | The balance rolls over and keeps accruing | Nothing; payment follows in the month the threshold is met | How to get paid |
YouTube's own example on its how to get paid page makes the lag concrete: if your balance reaches a $100 threshold during January and every step is complete with no holds, the payment is issued at the end of February. There is no shortcut, because the same page says Google cannot issue payments early for any reason. Memberships, Supers, Shorts and Watch Page earnings all travel through this one cycle; our YouTube money calculator helps you forecast what each month will add to the balance.
Payment methods
Your payment address decides which forms of payment you can pick, and YouTube lists electronic funds transfer, Hyperwallet, wire transfer and check as the possible options. Western Union is no longer offered to creators. Money that reaches Hyperwallet cannot be moved back into AdSense for YouTube, and your payment currency cannot be changed once set, according to the payment process page, so choose with your bank and your bookkeeping in mind.
Each payment comes with a receipt in AdSense for YouTube, which YouTube's payment steps page says you can open from your Transactions page, but Google does not supply printed, signed or stamped documents. Keep the receipts with your records for whoever prepares your accounts.
When a payment does not arrive
Most missing payments trace back to a hold. YouTube's payment holds page groups them like this:
- Tax: no tax information submitted, or a tax form that has not been approved.
- Identity: verification documents not yet submitted.
- Address: the mailed PIN has not been entered.
- Payments: no form of payment set up, or a self-hold you placed and forgot to remove.
- Compliance: Google's payments team needs information to confirm your identity, and the holds page asks you to reply to its email within 5 business days.
- Protection: Google is reviewing the account and may hold disbursements for up to 35 days, releasing the funds within 5 to 7 days or with your next payment once the review clears, per the same page.
Policy enforcement is separate from holds. Under YouTube's channel monetization policies, earnings tied to violations such as invalid traffic, fake engagement or Content ID claims can be withheld or adjusted, and the money can be held for as long as 90 days while YouTube investigates. Two more cases explain money that never shows up in AdSense at all: channels in a multi-channel network are paid by the network rather than by YouTube, and sales from your own store are paid by your merch retailer or platform, as the earnings overview explains. Refunds can also reduce a balance; our channel memberships guide covers how membership refunds come out of your share, and our Shorts monetization explainer covers why some Shorts views never earn.
Tax information, briefly
Every monetizing creator must submit US tax information, wherever they live. YouTube's thresholds page says Google withholds tax on earnings from US viewers where it applies, and that without your tax information Google may be required to deduct up to 24% of your total earnings worldwide. Income from YouTube may be taxable where you live as well, and YouTube says it cannot give tax advice, so take your payment receipts and AdSense statements to a registered tax agent or accountant.
Limitations
The dates, thresholds and holds here are the ones Google publishes for AdSense for YouTube as of October 1, 2026, and the help pages themselves disagree on small details such as PIN timing. Banks, weekends, public holidays and postal services can add delays that no help page controls, and the thresholds table covers only six currencies. YouTube is also testing payment details in the Earn tab of the Studio mobile app, so your screens may differ from the steps described.
If you are still waiting for a Partner Program decision, payments are not the next step yet; our explainer on how long the YouTube monetization review takes covers that stage. Nothing on this page is tax, legal or financial advice.
