Direct answer: give every completed Reddit post variation a unique ID and save the community, rule snapshot, asset, title, body, flair, publication time and creator approval that applied. Record whether it was accepted, filtered, removed, deleted by the creator or left unknown, plus the stated reason and current post insights. Compare only variations with a legitimate shared question; never use the log to bypass moderation or automate repeated reposting.
This page begins after a creator has selected a community and approved a post. It does not find subreddits, schedule participation, run title-only tests or prescribe repost frequency. Use the Reddit subreddit fit scorecard before this log when community selection is still unresolved.
Reddit communities have distinct subjects, cultures and rules. A post can be well made and still be a poor fit. The log keeps content evidence and moderation evidence together so the next decision respects both.
Define the variation question first
Write what changed and why. A valid question might compare an approved still with an approved short clip while keeping the community, topic and title job similar. “Which Reddit post wins?” is too broad because asset, title, timing, community and audience can all differ.
Choose one primary variation class: asset format, framing, body context, flair, post structure or another observable field. This route does not own title-only testing, so if only the title changes, move the plan to a dedicated title worksheet instead of duplicating scope.
State the creator decision the evidence can influence: repeat a format, clarify context, stop a concept or commission a new matched variation. If no decision follows, a comparison creates administration without useful learning.
Save a dated community and rule snapshot
Record the subreddit name, community description, visible rules, posting requirements, flair options, pinned guidance and snapshot timestamp. Save the URLs or screenshots used. Do this immediately before publication because community standards can change.
Reddit Help's March 29, 2026 explanation of moderators states that each community has its own focus and rules and that moderators can remove posts that do not fit. The log therefore treats acceptance as community-specific rather than a platform-wide guarantee.
Do not turn a historical rule snapshot into instructions for future posts. Verify the live community again at each publication event and stop if requirements are unclear.
Give each execution an immutable identity
Create a Variation ID that connects the approved asset, exact title, body text, flair, post URL and publication timestamp. Record the source-file version and creator approval. A crop, caption change or new community creates a different execution.
Store the content as published, including line breaks and labels. Memory-based summaries can hide the element that triggered a filter or confused readers. If a post is edited, preserve the original and append an edit event with its own time.
A re-upload is never the same row. It receives a new ID and must pass the current community review again. The log is a history, not a permission slip.
Classify the moderation outcome precisely
Use accepted, filtered pending review, removed by moderator, removed by Reddit, deleted by creator or unknown. Keep the status timestamp and any visible message or removal reason. Do not assume every missing post was manually rejected.
Separate initial and final outcomes. A post may be filtered, reviewed and later accepted. Append those events in order. If no explanation is visible, record “reason not supplied” instead of guessing which rule applied.
Never use removed posts to reverse-engineer a workaround. The next action should be understand, clarify, revise for a genuinely permitted context or stop. Respect a moderator's decision and the community's current rules.
Capture current post observations with definitions
Reddit Help's Post & Comment Insights page, updated June 12, 2026, lists current post observations such as upvotes, comments, views, shares, reposts and awards. Availability and definitions can change, so save the field labels and capture date.
Use the same elapsed observation window for comparable accepted posts. A removed post may have a shorter exposure period; record that difference instead of treating its total as a creative result.
Read comments for relevance and rule context, not only volume. A smaller discussion that addresses the post's topic may be more informative than many off-topic reactions. Keep qualitative notes separate from displayed counts.
Copy the Reddit post-variation log
Artifact: create one row per published execution and append moderation events rather than overwriting them.
| Variation ID | Community and rule snapshot | Changed field | Asset and text | Outcome | Reason | Observation window | Next decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RD-V01 | Community A — dated snapshot | Asset format | Approved still, exact title saved | Accepted | Not applicable | Fixed elapsed period | Compare with RD-V02 |
| RD-V02 | Same community and rule version | Asset format | Approved clip, matched topic | Filtered | Reason not supplied | Short exposure | Do not rank; clarify status |
Add: question, creator approval, source-file ID, title, body, flair, publish timestamp, edit events, insight-definition date, other account activity, confounds, evidence strength, counter-evidence, reviewer and archive path.
Keep content and community evidence in the same folder. A row without the applicable rule snapshot cannot support a strong moderation comparison.
Distinguish creative evidence from community-fit evidence
An accepted post can inform creative response only after its exposure window and context are recorded. A removed post primarily informs process and fit. It should not be ranked against an accepted post on views because the opportunity to be seen was different.
When two accepted variations share a community, rule version, topic and compatible window, compare the declared field. Still record timing, account state and overlapping participation as confounds.
When outcomes differ because the community or rules differ, the result belongs to community context, not a universal asset rule. Do not conclude that a format “does not work on Reddit.”
Log participation context without turning it into automation
Record recent comments, community participation, moderator communications and other posts only when they are visible and relevant to context. A community may respond differently to an established contributor than to an account that posts without participating.
Use the broader Reddit promotion strategy for creator-led participation principles. This log should not prescribe comment volume, posting intervals or automated actions.
Never coordinate engagement, conceal affiliation or use multiple accounts to manipulate a result. If a comparison depends on artificial activity, mark it unusable.
Write the next action from the evidence boundary
For two comparable accepted variations, choose repeat principle, adjust one field, run another matched execution or stop. Phrase the conclusion narrowly: “In this community and rule version, the clip produced more topic-relevant comments across the matched window; test the format once more.”
For a removal with a stated reason, record the reason and stop the affected execution. Revise only if a new post can genuinely meet current requirements. For an unexplained filter, wait or seek permitted clarification rather than repeatedly submitting variations.
Send cross-channel experiment evidence to the promotion test log only with platform-specific definitions preserved. Reddit upvotes and Instagram saves are not interchangeable units.
Audit comparisons for bypass thinking
Sample recent rows and ask whether the next action respects the live rule snapshot and moderation outcome. Flag language about “beating,” “evading,” “warming” or resubmitting until accepted. Replace it with understand, clarify, revise legitimately or stop.
Check that removed posts were not treated as low-performing creative, accepted posts did not inherit permission for future reposts and community-specific findings were not generalised to all of Reddit.
Confirm the creator approved every variation and that the stored source matches the published content. Missing approval or mismatched evidence closes the row as unusable.
Review patterns without creating universal rules
Group rows by one stable dimension: community, asset format, content job or moderation outcome. Show counts and evidence-strength labels, but keep each Variation ID visible. A small group can suggest a question; it cannot establish a permanent norm.
Track the share of rows missing rule snapshots, clear reasons or compatible windows. Those gaps reveal process improvements. They do not justify filling in assumed causes.
Close each review with a challenge condition and date. A format stays in the plan only while it remains permitted, creator-approved and useful in current evidence.
Archive the evidence so another reviewer can reproduce it
Store each Variation ID with the exact published text, approved asset version, community snapshot, moderation events, insight captures and decision note. Use filenames that include the ID and capture timestamp. A future reviewer should not need private memory to reconstruct the row.
Keep deleted or removed content records restricted to the creator's authorised team and retain only what the review genuinely needs. The public post URL may no longer display the evidence, so the dated internal record is what preserves the decision history.
At the end of a campaign, export the rows and lock the period. Later observations belong in a new capture or review, not an edit to the original result.
Limitations and responsible use
Limitations: Reddit communities differ, rules change and moderation can involve automated filters, volunteer decisions and platform action. Organic post variations cannot isolate every factor. Observations are contextual evidence for one creator, community and period.
Acceptance does not guarantee future acceptance, distribution, subscribers or earnings. Removal does not prove a creative idea is universally weak. Never use the log to bypass rules, repeatedly repost removed material or automate participation.
The creator's approval, truthful representation and community respect control every decision. Stop a variation when its only path forward depends on misleading context or unwanted repetition.
