You make money on TikTok LIVE when TikTok pays you a reward, not when a viewer hands you cash. Viewers spend Coins on Gifts, TikTok uses the type and number of those Gifts to measure your popularity in Diamonds, and its Rewards Policy weighs Diamonds alongside LIVE duration, new followers, engagement, days LIVE, ranking and content quality to decide a reward payment. Super Fan subscriptions add a monthly line on top, while matches, Gift Gallery tasks and rankings mostly work by drawing in more Gifts.
That chain clears up most of the confusion about LIVE income. Diamonds are not money and Gifts are not tips: TikTok's Virtual Items Policy says virtual items cannot be exchanged for cash, that gifting transfers nothing of value to the creator, and that Diamonds do not automatically entitle anyone to a reward. This guide maps each earning feature TikTok documents, explains the current rewards formula, flags where old and new TikTok pages disagree and ends with a worksheet for reviewing each stream. It leaves out Coin-to-Diamond-to-dollar conversions on purpose, because TikTok ties payments to several factors rather than a fixed rate.
Who can earn from LIVE Gifts
Gifts are the foundation, so start with the switch. TikTok's LIVE Gifts help page lists four conditions for turning them on: live somewhere LIVE Gifts is available, be at least 18 (19 in South Korea), be eligible to go LIVE, and keep the account in good standing. Government, politician, political party and some other public-interest accounts cannot collect Diamonds through Gifts. The toggle sits under Settings on the LIVE screen, and your Diamond total appears in the LIVE summary when the stream ends. If LIVE itself is not open to you yet, the guide to going LIVE on TikTok covers the age, follower and age-check rules first.
Region matters twice. Gifts are not offered everywhere, and the legal terms behind them depend on where you live. TikTok publishes three versions of the Rewards Policy: one for the United States, where the platform is operated by TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC; one for the EEA, UK and Switzerland; and one for other regions. Their lists of LIVE payment factors are nearly identical, with one difference worth knowing: the EEA version names the number of active members or subscribers to your community where the other two name viewer engagement.
How TikTok calculates LIVE rewards now
Under the current formula, your rewards combine popularity, measured in Diamonds, with a rewards percentage you build by completing missions. TikTok's Creator Academy article on Scaled LIVE rewards, last updated on 19 August 2026, says select creators can collect up to 53% in rewards, made up of up to 40% from Per-LIVE Missions and up to 13% from Weekly Missions, with the Creator League mission capped at US$1,000 a week.
| Element | What TikTok says it measures | When it updates | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per-LIVE Missions | LIVE duration, new unique followers and adherence to the LIVE Monetization Guidelines and Community Guidelines; worth up to 40% | Shown under available rewards after each LIVE | Scaled LIVE rewards |
| Weekly Missions | How often you went LIVE, content engagement and Creator League performance; worth up to 13% | Added every Monday for the previous week | Scaled LIVE rewards |
| Go LIVE day | At least 25 total minutes LIVE in a day; a stream that runs across days counts only on the day it ends | Daily | Scaled LIVE rewards |
| New unique follower | Someone not already following who follows during the LIVE and is still following when it ends | Per LIVE | Scaled LIVE rewards |
| Content engagement level | Active Fan Club members plus viewer engagement during your LIVE | Weekly | Scaled LIVE rewards |
| The week | Monday 00:00:00 to Sunday 23:59:59 in your account region's local time, with UTC-7 used for all US users | Progress resets each Monday | Scaled LIVE rewards |
Two caveats come from the same article. Only LIVEs you host count toward the new formula, so appearing as a guest in someone else's multi-guest LIVE still falls under the previous one. And eligibility is not entitlement: TikTok keeps full discretion over whether rewards are available and how large they are.
Older TikTok pages describe a different deal. A December 2022 LIVE creators article said TikTok shared 50% of its net revenue from virtual items with creators after app-store, payment-processing and other deductions. The Scaled LIVE rewards article describes a mission-based percentage instead, launched globally from 4 August 2025 with a small share of creators held on a delayed schedule for testing. Where the two conflict, plan around the newer article and the Rewards Policy.
LIVE earnings feature map
Every feature below is documented by TikTok. Super Fan and shopping commission pay through their own channels; most of the rest feed the Gifts and Diamonds that the rewards formula reads.
| Feature | How it earns | Worth knowing | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| LIVE Gifts | Viewers activate Gifts with Coins, and TikTok allocates Diamonds by popularity | Gifts are consumed on activation and cannot be refunded; gifting is public | Virtual Items Policy (US) |
| LIVE rewards missions | Turn Diamonds into a reward percentage through Per-LIVE and Weekly Missions | Violations can trigger a content quality adjustment that reduces rewards | Scaled LIVE rewards |
| Super Fan | A monthly subscription exclusive to LIVE; after payment processing fees, TikTok rewards creators with an amount equivalent to up to 50% of its Super Fan revenue | Priced globally at US$9.99 a month or the local equivalent; it upgrades the older LIVE Subscription | Answering your Super Fan FAQs |
| Fan Club | Viewers join by sending a Heart Me Gift, then level up by watching, commenting and gifting | Fans must earn points within 7 days of you going LIVE or their status pauses | LIVE Fan Club help page |
| LIVE Match | Solo or team competitions in which Gifts and likes count as points | Team formats include 1v2, 1v3 and 2v2, and Power-ups go to top contributors of the winning side | Unlocking LIVE monetization |
| Gift Gallery and LIVE goals | Weekly Gift tasks appear on screen as a LIVE Goal that viewers help complete | The cycle resets at 12:00 AM local time every Monday | Unlocking LIVE monetization |
| Gift Vote | Viewers vote on questions you set by sending Gifts | An updated version of the older Gift Poll | Unlocking LIVE monetization |
| Weekly Rankings | Ranks creators by Diamonds collected; the top 20 each week get prizes and ranks four to ten are featured on the Explore More page | You can opt out in LIVE settings | Going LIVE! |
| LIVE campaigns | TikTok-run events with rewards for creators and viewers | Join from campaign banners; each campaign has its own terms and an opt-out | Going LIVE! |
| Shopping LIVEs | Commission on TikTok Shop products sold during the stream, under Shop's own rules | The US LIVE Manager dashboard reports commission earned per LIVE | LIVE Manager (US Seller University) |
Super Fan needs a note on naming. The Super Fan FAQs, updated on 1 October 2026, say Super Fan upgrades the previous LIVE Subscription programme and that, since September 2025, LIVE perks such as subscriber-only LIVEs belong to Super Fan, while the separate Subscription programme covers content outside LIVE. Older pages, such as a 2023 UK LIVE creators article listing LIVE Subscription requirements, describe a programme that has since been folded in, so check LIVE Center for what your account offers today.
Several of these tools are easier to run from a computer, where LIVE Studio adds Gift vote and LIVE goals alongside co-hosting; the guide to going LIVE on TikTok from a PC covers that setup. Shopping LIVEs have their own entry route, explained in the guide to becoming a TikTok Shop affiliate.
What makes a LIVE ineligible for money
TikTok holds monetized LIVEs to a higher standard than ordinary streams. Its LIVE Monetization Guidelines group the problems under safety, quality and integrity, and state that LIVE content ineligible for the For You feed is also ineligible for LIVE monetization. The patterns most likely to catch an ordinary creator:
- Reproduced, pre-recorded, spliced or looping video presented as live, and streams run mainly by automation.
- Passive or unattended LIVEs, long static or blurred screens, and repeatedly directing viewers off the platform.
- Gift baiting: tricking viewers or mechanically soliciting Gifts, follow-for-follow promises, emotional pressure, or asking for Gifts to settle a two-sided question.
- Asking for Gifts or financial help on the basis of personal financial need or crowdfunding unrelated to your content.
- LIVEs where minors are the main focus or main participants.
- Exploiting conflicts, tragedies or polarising issues for engagement.
Enforcement ranges from an in-app warning to temporary or permanent loss of features such as Gifts, LIVE Match and time-based rankings. TikTok says it notifies creators through the inbox with a route to appeal, and that past actions can be reviewed under Creator tools, LIVE Center, Rules and guidance, Restrictions. For reward deductions, the Scaled LIVE rewards FAQ says appeals go through the Transaction details page for LIVEs hosted within the past 180 days, and that human moderators rather than automation decide reductions. When the problem is reach rather than money, the guide to LIVEs that are not eligible for recommendation explains each notice.
Getting paid under the Rewards Policy
Rewards only become yours when they land in your account: the US Rewards Policy says any amount displayed belongs to TikTok until the payment reaches your preferred account, and the EEA and other-regions versions use the same words. All three versions (US, EEA, UK and Switzerland, other regions) also say:
- Reward payments are calculated in US dollars, and converting to your local currency can carry a cost that is shown before you request the payment.
- Minimum and maximum payment limits and transaction fees may apply.
- You may need to provide information to verify your identity, age and location before a payment.
- Unless a programme says otherwise, the ability to receive a reward expires two years after you first become eligible for it.
- Tax on rewards is your responsibility, and TikTok may withhold tax where it believes it is required to.
The US and other-regions versions add that payments travel through third-party payment providers, so TikTok will not commit to a specific payment period. Keep your own record of every statement and payout, and ask a qualified tax adviser in your country how LIVE rewards are treated. Video earnings are a separate scheme with separate rules, set out in the guide to Creator Rewards Program eligibility.
Post-LIVE review worksheet
LIVE Center and the LIVE rewards page hold most of the numbers you need, but they are spread across screens and some reset weekly. Copy this table into a spreadsheet and fill one row per stream from your own data. It carries no example figures on purpose: the aim is to compare your streams with each other, not with anyone else's. The analytics fields follow TikTok's LIVE Center 101 article.
| Field | What to record | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Date, start time, duration | When the stream ran and for how long, and whether it qualified as a go LIVE day | LIVE Analytics; the go LIVE day rule in the rewards article |
| Diamonds and gifters | Total Diamonds and the number of people who sent Gifts | LIVE summary and the LIVE Center home page |
| Viewers | Unique viewers, top viewer count and average watch time | LIVE Analytics overview |
| New followers | Followers gained during the stream | LIVE Analytics |
| Per-LIVE result | The rewards percentage and estimated rewards shown for this LIVE | LIVE rewards page |
| Features used | Match, Gift Gallery task, Gift Vote, Super Fan goal, guests | Your own notes |
| Key moments | Timestamps of spikes in Gifts, joins or chat, and what you were doing | Your notes plus the LIVE replay, kept for 30 days |
| Restrictions | Any warning, restriction or content quality adjustment, and whether you appealed | Inbox; LIVE Center Rules and guidance; Transaction details |
| Next time | One thing to repeat and one to drop | Your notes |
Review a month of rows at a time. Differences in start time, length and features only become readable across several streams, and one strong or weak LIVE says little by itself.
Limitations of this guide
TikTok changes LIVE monetization often, and its own pages show it: an older LIVE creators article describes a flat revenue share, the current Creator Academy describes missions, and the Super Fan FAQ was revised on the day this guide was written. Mission percentages, caps, prices and eligibility vary by region and may differ in your app; the rewards article itself says regional values may be adjusted.
Nothing here estimates what any creator will earn, and no feature or schedule assures a payout, because TikTok keeps discretion over rewards. Treat the policies linked above as the binding text for your region, and get qualified advice on tax and on any agency or network contract before you sign.
