Webcam modeling needs a camera that can deliver a sharp Full HD picture, light that falls on your face from the front, a clear microphone, a computer that can encode video, a wired connection with enough upload speed, and streaming software such as OBS. Most of that is generic kit; what is specific to camming is the settings, because Chaturbate, Stripchat and LiveJasmin each publish their own upload, bitrate and encoder guidance, and the official numbers disagree.
This guide covers live-streaming kit and settings only, taken from each site's broadcasting guides and the OBS Knowledge Base as they read on 1 October 2026. For photo and video production kit, see our OnlyFans equipment guide; for general streaming gear outside cam sites, see streaming equipment for beginners.
Encoder and bandwidth settings, site by site
Each cell is what that site's own guide says, with CB, SC and LJ standing for Chaturbate, Stripchat and LiveJasmin in the sources column. Where a site gives two different answers, both are shown.
| Setting | Chaturbate | Stripchat | LiveJasmin | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upload for standard quality | 5 Mbps, with 20 Mbps download | At least 4 Mbps, preferably over cable | 1.5 Mbps minimum, with 2 Mbps download | CB requirements; SC equipment; LJ requirements |
| Upload for HD or Full HD | 10 Mbps or more to stream HD | 10 Mbps for an HD broadcast | 6 Mbps or more, with 10 Mbps download, for Full HD | CB requirements; SC setup tips; LJ requirements |
| Video bitrate at 1280×720 | 3,000 to 5,000 kbps | 1,500 to 2,500 kbps | Ready-made OBS profiles for 720p instead of a table | CB OBS guide; SC OBS guide; LJ splitter guide |
| Video bitrate at 1920×1080 | 5,000 to 8,000 kbps | 3,000 to 6,000 kbps, though its troubleshooting page says up to 4 Mbps | Ready-made OBS profiles for 1080p | CB OBS guide; SC OBS guide; SC fixes; LJ splitter guide |
| Audio bitrate | 96 kbps to 720p, 128 kbps at 1080p | 128 kbps in the text, 96 kbps in the same page's table | Clean, steady, in-sync audio | CB OBS guide; SC OBS guide; LJ quality rating |
| Keyframe interval | Any reasonable value; 2 to 5 seconds is good | 2 seconds, marked important; 2 to 5 seconds on the troubleshooting page | Set inside the supplied OBS profiles | CB RTMP settings; SC OBS guide; SC fixes; LJ splitter guide |
| Rate control and frame rate | CBR required; 24 to 30 fps, higher only with a camera built for it | CBR preferred; 24 to 30 fps | Camera at 30 fps or higher, 16:9 | CB RTMP settings; SC OBS guide; LJ cameras |
| Highest resolution through OBS | Up to 4K, capped at 30 fps at 4K | Up to 1080p | 1080p recommended for Full HD streaming | CB RTMP settings; SC resolution options; LJ requirements |
| Encoder advice | QuickSync first, then NVENC, then software x264 | GPU encoding to cut CPU load; set B-frames to 0 on non-default encoders | Intel QuickSync, Nvidia NVENC or AMD VCE/VCN hardware encoding | CB OBS guide; SC OBS guide; LJ requirements |
Two more conflicts are worth knowing. Chaturbate's OBS guide lists 30 Mbps of upload for a 4K stream, while its XSplit guide lists 20 Mbps. And Chaturbate's encoder order puts QuickSync ahead of NVENC, whereas the OBS Knowledge Base page on hardware encoding says to use your primary graphics adapter's encoder, so a computer with an Nvidia or AMD card would normally use NVENC or AMF rather than QuickSync. The same OBS page notes that Intel Macs cannot stream with Apple's hardware encoder and must use x264.
Pick a bitrate from your own upload speed
Start with a speed test against the site itself. Chaturbate points to its own speed test servers, Stripchat runs a dedicated speed test, and LiveJasmin links one from its requirements page. Then follow the OBS stream connection guide, which suggests setting your video bitrate to about 75% of your total upload speed as a starting point and lowering it if frames drop.
Then fit the resolution to the bitrate, not the other way around. Chaturbate's guides say never to set a resolution above your camera's and never to upscale, and to use at least the minimum bitrate listed for a resolution. If your stable upload only supports the lower end of a site's range for 1080p, a clean 720p stream usually looks better than a starved 1080p one. Retest at the hours you actually stream, because evening and weekend congestion can change the result.
Camera and lighting
Chaturbate's camming equipment page suggests an HD webcam that streams at 1080 pixels or more and lighting that removes shadows from your face. LiveJasmin's recommended cameras page sets a minimum of 1920×1080 at 30 fps in 16:9, although its video rating page calls 720p the minimum and 1080p the recommendation. If you want to use a DSLR or mirrorless camera, Chaturbate documents a capture-card setup it has tested.
The most useful camera advice is LiveJasmin's list of manual settings: turn autofocus, auto exposure and auto white balance off, enable anti-flicker under artificial light, and avoid pushing saturation or sharpness. For cameras with shutter control it recommends the 180-degree rule, a shutter speed of one divided by twice the frame rate, so 1/60 at 30 fps. Light from the front and sides, never from behind you, and record a short test clip to check for shadows before you go live.
Audio, computer and connection
LiveJasmin's quality guide warns that members lose interest quickly if they cannot hear you well. Put the microphone close, away from fans and traffic noise, and use the OBS Noise Suppression filter, which the Knowledge Base says handles mild background noise such as PC fans but not a loud room. Stripchat's troubleshooting page also asks for a 48,000 Hz sample rate.
Stripchat gives four different computer minimums across its pages: a dual-core processor with 4 GB of RAM in its broadcasting checklist, a quad-core with 4 GB on the equipment page, a quad-core with 8 GB in its setup tips, and an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen with 8 GB, an SSD and Windows 10 on its stream quality page. Plan for the highest of them. LiveJasmin's Full HD recommendation is a 9th-generation Core i5 or Ryzen 5 5600G class processor, 8 GB of RAM and a GPU with hardware encoding.
Use a wired Ethernet connection: every site's guide and the OBS connection guide recommend it. Be careful with VPNs while broadcasting. OBS lists VPN software as a cause of unstable connections, Chaturbate suggests disabling a VPN that causes problems, and LiveJasmin says it does not penalize VPN use but that the hit to stream quality can cost you its good video rating. Region blocking, not a VPN, is the tool that keeps viewers in a given place from seeing you.
Streaming to more than one site
Sending one camera to two sites needs a splitter or the OBS virtual camera. Stripchat's equipment page recommends a splitter set to the same resolution on both ends, and LiveJasmin's splitter guide advises against one unless you really stream elsewhere, because splitters can add lag and resolution problems. Check each site's rules as well as the hardware: our Chaturbate vs Stripchat comparison covers what each allows, and the mechanics of sending one stream to several services are covered in our guide to multistreaming.
OBS also behaves differently per site. On Chaturbate, starting the OBS stream takes your room live at once, even if you are not logged in, and only stopping OBS ends it. On Stripchat, OBS output does nothing until you start the show on the site, and closing the browser does not end the broadcast.
Streaming from a phone
Phones work on all three sites, with conditions. Stripchat's mobile setup guide asks for at least 4 Mbps up and down for 720p, 7 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up for 1080p, ping under 200 ms, jitter under 4 ms and a battery above 50%, and it suggests restarting the stream every one to two hours. Chaturbate's mobile broadcasting page supports portrait and landscape but warns that you cannot switch orientation mid-stream without viewers seeing you sideways. All three sites forbid unregistered people appearing on camera, so mobile streams away from home need extra care.
Setup checklist before your first broadcast
- Run the site's own speed test over a wired connection at the hour you plan to stream, and note the upload figure.
- Set the OBS video bitrate to roughly three-quarters of that upload, inside your site's range for the resolution.
- Choose a resolution no higher than your camera's native output, with matching base and output resolution.
- Select CBR, the keyframe interval your site asks for and 30 fps.
- Pick the hardware encoder that belongs to your main graphics adapter, and fall back to x264 only if you must.
- Lock focus, exposure and white balance on the camera, then switch on anti-flicker if you use artificial light.
- Place your main light in front of you, add side light, and remove anything bright behind you.
- Add a noise suppression filter to the microphone and test the level in the OBS audio mixer.
- Generate a fresh stream key, keep it private, and know exactly what starts and stops your broadcast on your site.
- Record a two-minute test, watch it back with sound, and check the frame for anything that identifies your home or location.
- Watch the OBS status bar on your first live session and lower the bitrate if dropped frames appear.
The last item overlaps with privacy. Our webcam modeling safety checklist covers the room sweep and the site settings to change before you broadcast.
Limits of this guide
Settings come from each site's published guides on 1 October 2026, and several of those guides contradict each other; when they do, test on your own connection and ask the site's support which figure applies. Bandwidth, hardware and camera behavior vary, so treat every number as a starting point rather than a promise of picture quality. Product names are the sites' own suggestions, not endorsements, and buying better equipment does not by itself change what you earn.
