What you need before you start
Every OnlyFans account begins life as a fan account, even if you plan to post. The OnlyFans Terms of Use say registration needs a valid email address, a username and a password, or sign-in through an approved third party, and that a fan must be at least 18, able to enter a binding contract and legally allowed to use the service. Creator requirements sit on top of that and are collected after the fan account exists, so it helps to gather them before you begin.

Opening a fan account, step by step
- Type onlyfans.com into the address bar yourself instead of tapping a link someone sent you. Our guide to the OnlyFans website explains which addresses belong to OnlyFans, and the official start page says signing up is free.
- Choose the sign-up option and enter an email address, a username and a password. If you prefer, the log-in screen also offers Sign in with X and Sign in with Google.
- Open the confirmation email and verify the address. Until you do, OnlyFans treats the account as unable to subscribe or make payments.
- Complete whatever age check appears for your location. The Privacy Policy describes an estimate based on your email address, a facial age estimate from a short selfie clip, and the option of a fuller ID check for anyone the estimate gets wrong.
- Add a payment card only when you are ready to pay for something. OnlyFans shows and charges every price in US dollars, and its payments article warns that card providers may add currency conversion fees.
- Switch on two-step authentication before your first subscription, using the steps further down this page.
A fan account is enough to follow creators and pay for content. You only need the creator steps below if you intend to post and earn on OnlyFans yourself.
Turning a fan account into a creator account
OnlyFans' help article on opening a creator account says you register as a fan first and then complete what it calls the Creator Onboarding Process. The Creator Center sets out the order: read the Terms of Service and check your planned content against the Acceptable Use Policy, sign up at onlyfans.com, open “Become a creator” in your profile settings, choose your country of residence, fill in the form with the details printed on your ID, upload the two photos, then wait for an approval email.
- Copy your details from the document. The form asks for the information as it appears on your passport, driving licence or ID card, so use the same spelling and the same order of names.
- Use a document that is in date and undamaged. OnlyFans' list of reasons applications are rejected includes expired, invalid or damaged ID.
- Shoot the photos in good, even light. The same list names poor-quality selfies and poor-quality photos of ID documents.
- Make your other social profiles visible. OnlyFans rejects applications when the applicant's other social media accounts are set to private, and it asks for your handles as part of verification.
- Confirm your country before anything else. If OnlyFans cannot make payouts where you live, the application fails however good the documents are, and the help centre says that country list is updated regularly.

The age rule, and why fans get checked too
The minimum age is 18 for everyone, and there are no exceptions for fans who only want to browse. OnlyFans' Age and Identity Verification page gives two reasons: subscribing or posting requires payment details and the legal capacity to pay, and some content on the platform is not suitable for anyone younger.
Fans are checked according to the rules where they live. Depending on the location, a fan may be asked for personal details, confirmations or payment information, or sent through a third-party age estimation or verification check before explicit material becomes visible. The Privacy Policy says the face-matching data used in these checks is collected and kept by the outside provider, not by OnlyFans itself. Do not try to get around an age or location check. The verification page says OnlyFans takes action against anyone who seeks to bypass its controls, and the Terms let it reject or close accounts.
Email, X or Google: choosing how you sign in
The method you pick at sign-up becomes the front door to your account, so choose it for the long term rather than for speed.

Whichever you choose, avoid a work address, because your employer controls that mailbox and can close it. Two-step authentication: set it up on day one
- Open your Account Settings page, where OnlyFans' two-step authentication article says the option lives.
- Install an authenticator app first. OnlyFans names Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator as the common choices, and also offers codes by SMS to the phone number on the account.
- Prefer the app where you can. The FTC's guide to two-factor authentication explains that text-message codes can be intercepted if someone hijacks your number through a SIM swap.
- If you use SMS, save the backup codes OnlyFans generates when you switch it on. Its help centre says those codes are how you get back in if you lose the phone.
- Log out and back in once to confirm the codes work before you rely on them.
