Creating an OnlyFans creator account means opening a fan account, passing identity verification, then adding payout details, tax information, a price and your first posts. OnlyFans publishes no standard approval time, so this guide takes each stage in order, with the rules and limits OnlyFans itself states.
The creator set-up path at a glance

Verification does not end at approval
The approval email is not the last identity check you will see. OnlyFans' Age and Identity Verification page says every creator account goes through secondary selfie checks on a rolling 45-day cycle, with extra cross-checks in high-risk places or on flagged accounts. If a selfie check fails, the account cannot be accessed and its content is hidden while moderators review it, which can end in a request for more ID, a suspension or termination, or full reinstatement once the issue is resolved.
- Only you can pass a selfie check. The Creator Center says the checks exist to keep each profile in the control of its verified creator, so nobody who helps you run the page can complete one for you. Deal with each prompt promptly.
- Plan for collaborators before you film. The Terms say anyone else in your content must be a creator you have tagged with the OnlyFans tool, or an adult whose proof of identity and written, informed consent you hold. The Creator Center adds that a non-creator collaborator receives a verification link, and the post stays hidden until their check is complete.
- Keep your address current. Tax documents for US creators are posted to the address on the W-9, so a move means updating that form.

Payout set-up: method, minimum and timing
The payout methods you can pick depend on where you live, so check the options before you open a new bank account for the purpose. These are the rules OnlyFans publishes for getting money out:

Worked example: a fan pays a $10 subscription. Your share is $8 under the 80% split, and that $8 waits in your pending balance for 7 days before it can be withdrawn. With a $20 minimum, three such subscriptions ($24 in your current balance) are needed before a first payout request is possible. Any sales tax the fan pays on top is collected separately and is not part of your earnings.

Tax forms: W-9, W-8BEN and the 1099
OnlyFans asks for tax details because, as its help centre puts it, it may be legally required to share information about your earnings with your local tax authority. Which form you complete depends on whether you count as a US person for tax purposes:
- US persons complete a W-9. The IRS explains that Form W-9 gives your correct taxpayer identification number to anyone who must file an information return about income paid to you, and the Creator Center lists it for US creators.
- Non-US individuals asked for a US form usually need a W-8BEN. The IRS says Form W-8BEN goes to the payer when you are a foreign person and the beneficial owner of an amount subject to withholding, and that you submit it when asked whether or not you claim a reduced rate.
- US residents may receive a 1099. OnlyFans' 1099 article says creators who earned and withdrew more than $600 in the previous tax year receive one, posted to the W-9 address and downloadable from the Banking page.
Those two sources do not line up for future years. The IRS instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC say the general reporting threshold rose to $2,000 for tax years beginning after 2025, while the OnlyFans article still quotes $600. Neither figure decides what you owe: the Terms make you warrant that you report everything you earn to your tax authority, form or no form. Build the profile before you announce it
Visitors decide quickly whether a page is worth paying for, so finish the public parts before the first link goes out.
- Name and handle. Your display name and @username are public, and fans search by the username. Choose one that is easy to spell and keeps your legal name out of it; our username ideas guide has a framework.
- Avatar and header image. These are visible to anyone, and the Acceptable Use Policy applies its public-nudity rule to avatar and header images by name.

- Linked accounts. OnlyFans lets you connect selected platforms in Account Settings, but it does not allow links to file storage sites.

First posts: file limits and features that come later
A page with nothing on it gives a visitor no reason to stay, so schedule a starter set of posts before you share the link. OnlyFans' article on what a post can include sets the technical limits: up to 40 pictures or videos per post, images under 6000 by 6000 pixels, videos up to 3 GB each, and formats such as mp4, mov and avi.
- Tips. The Creator Center says profiles with at least five posts can become eligible to accept tips.
- Live streaming. Going live is not available to every new creator; OnlyFans adds it once a profile has a history of content that follows the Terms.
- Labels. Paid promotion of another brand needs #ad, #paidpromotion or #sponsored plus the brand's name and who paid, and AI-generated content needs a label such as #ai or #AIGenerated, both under the Terms of Use.
